Rockland County Steel Company Sued for Unpaid Debts

A Rockland County steel company is using bankruptcy to avoid paying a $2 million dollar court judgement. Last year, Justice Robert M. Berliner of the Rockland Supreme Court found Solutions in Stainless Inc. liable to pay Taunton Metals of Florida in excess of two million dollars for past debts due to unpaid steel shipments. Weeks after this decision, Solutions in Stainless Inc. filed for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy claiming $0 in assets and almost $2.4 million in liabilities. The company has been out of business for the last four years while Taunton Metals continues to pursue the lawsuit.

Mayor’s Refusal May Lead to Increased Taxes

Spring Valley mayor Alan Simon and his local village board members are coming under hot water for refusing to consider a local insurance brokers contract proposal. Leonard Binder of the Binder Agency is stating foul play on the grounds of being left out of a June 20 multimillion-dollar insurance contract bidding war that has been awarded for the past three years to The Bauer-Crowley Agency. Binder also contends that these actions have cost taxpayers thousands of dollars by eliminating any competition from other brokers.

Justin Bieber in Rockland County

Newly engaged couple Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin wined and dined themselves at Nyack’s own Turiello’s Pizza this past weekend. Owner Nick Loconsol and local pedestrians took photos with the superstar, who has recently been spotted in multiple locations around Rockland County. Beiber’s fiancée, Hailey Baldwin, grew up in the Upper Grandview area and stated that she has plans to raise their future family in the same surroundings, “When I have kids, they will grow up around all this.”

Road problems, road work, road solutions in Rockland

Multiple road work projects are underway in Rockland County due to various reasons. The Rockland County Highway Department has stated a road resurfacing project will begin July 30, starting from Blaisdell Road (the New Jersey Border) to Orangeburg Road (Orangetown), Construction is planned for the next couple of days within the hours of 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Also in Sloatsburg, NY, an 8-inch water main break occurred Sunday on Route 17 causing traffic delays and even a water advisory to boil water. There is no set timetable on the completion of this incident as construction workers are diligently fixing the problem.
Throughout the span of both projects, motorists have been requested to find alternate routes as delays and lane closures are expected.

Reward for Justice

The New York State Crime Stoppers have recently increased public interest in relation to a Nanuet sexual assault case by offering a cash reward. Up to $2,500 will be given to anyone with information that leads to a direct arrest and conviction of the person responsible for assaulting an 89-year old white female in Normandy Village.

As of this time no physical description as been provided of the fugitive. The attack occurred between the hours of 4:30pm on July 3, 2018 and 5 a.m. on July 4. Contact the New York State Crime Stoppers (1-866-313-8477) to help resolve this case.

Health Spa Leaves Members In The Dark

A Rockland County Health Spa located in Piermont has closed, citing financial problems for the reason. The Diplomat Health and Swim Club, which has been in existence for over 40 years, planned to reopen July 7 but hardships prevented its restart. Owner Bruce Woolley expressed, “We continue to explore strategies to re-open. We will advise members of news in that area. Changes in Nanuet

Nanuet may start looking a little different in the coming years. The Thruway Plaza of Rockland Associates plan to create a new luxury hotel that will replace the Rockland Plaza mall on Route 59 as early as 2020.

The owners have already submitted plans to the town’s Technical Advisory Committee for a 5-story 123-room hotel that anticipates to bring in additional revenue for the town. Current businesses in the plaza have already begun to plan their relocation. A Rockland County favorite Franco’s Pizza plans to relocate just up the street on Route 59.

Man Injured During House Party Shooting

A 26-year-old man was shot in Pomona after attending a weekend party on Hidden Valley Drive. The victim arrived at Good Samaritan Hospital with a non-life-threatening penetration wound. Ramapo Police were alerted by hospital staff of the shooting incident to investigate. At this time the motive of the shooting is unknown. Ramapo detectives (845-357-2400), with help from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Bureau Criminal Investigation office (845-638-5400), are asking for any information from the community.
