CPD: Child Injured by Fireworks

REPORT FROM CLARKSTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

On July 4, 2018 at approximately 9:25 p.m. the Clarkstown Police Department responded to Demarest Mill Rd. in West Nyack for a report of a child injured by fireworks. Responding patrol units arrived at the scene and encountered an 8 year old male with an injury below his eye. Nanuet Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the boy and his father, who was with the child at the time of the incident, to Westchester Medical Center for medical attention. The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. There is no additional information available in regards to the medical condition of the victim at the time of this release.

It appears that the accident occurred while the victim’s neighbor was shooting off fireworks. Multiple people were observing the fireworks. One of the items apparently exploded prematurely, causing the injury to the victim. The victim was the only party injured. The Clarkstown Police Department is investigating the incident to determine the severity of the charges to be filed against the 47-year-old male suspect from West Nyack.

All parties have been identified by the department and an additional release will be distributed as soon as the determination has been made on the charges to be filed.
