RECKLESS DRIVER TO SERVE 16 – 48 MONTHS FOR NEGLIGENT KILLING OF 3-THREE-MONTH-OLD

Last summer in a fit of what has been described as “road rage,” Albert Gomez, 63, of Spring Valley swerved onto the shoulder of Rt. 59 in Monsey, tragically killing a 3-month-old child and injuring two young siblings of the infant, as well as the child’s 38-year-old mother.

Facing two counts of felony assault, two counts of misdemeanor assault, four counts of reckless endangerment and reckless driving, Gomez made a plea bargain with prosecutors and was sentenced this week to 16 – 48 months in state prison.

Rockland prosecutors said Gomez, driving a 1999 Toyota, was angry at a taxi driver he was stuck behind in traffic and attempted to pass the vehicle. He then collided with the innocent bystanders, claiming the young child’s life.
