DISASTER AVERTED: Cops Say he was Driving the Wrong Way and Drunk, Fortunately Nobody Got Hurt

REPORT FROM RAMAPO PD

Ramapo PD found a 22-year-old New Jersey man driving on the wrong side of the concrete divide on Rt. 17 near David Sporting Good’s around 5:30 a.m. Saturday morning. It was an officer in a patrol car who was forced to face down the wrong-way driver.

Traffic was light, Ramapo PD said, and the officer was able to avoid the oncoming car. The alleged wrong-way driver was easily caught and arrested when he was forced to tend to a flat tire. The car was stopped faced in the wrong direction, north in the southbound lane near Auntie El’s.

The driver of the vehicle, Sergio Rodriguez, 22 years old of Mine Hill, NJ, was arrested and charged with DWI (1192.2 and 1192.3). The defendant is being processed for the arrest and is awaiting arraignment.
