HOMETOWN HAPPENINGS: Winter Wonderland

BY GEORGE HOEHMANN
Supervisor, Town of Clarkstown

This year the Town of Clarkstown is holding our first ever Winter Wonderland at the beautiful Congers Lake Memorial Park. So many of us enjoy Congers Lake during the nice weather and now we can continue to enjoy the park during the holidays too.

Our Recreation Superintendent, Elaine Apfelbaum, and our Recreation Department constructed new LED light displays through a portion of the walking trail surrounding the Congers Community Center. Families will be able to stroll through the walkway and look at all the beautiful Christmas, Hanukkah, and holiday light displays while listening to holiday music over the speakers.

All residents are invited to join us for the grand opening of the Winter Wonderland on Thursday, December 14th at 6pm. We will light the tree and turn on the LED light displays. That night, we will also have a visit from Santa, horse drawn wagon rides, preschoolers caroling, s’mores making, ice carving, and a musical performance by the popular children’s singer Matty Roxx.

The Winter Wonderland light display will be open daily from December 14th to January 1st from 5pm to 9:45pm. Throughout the month we will also be collecting scarves, gloves, and mittens for families in need. If you can, please donate winter accessories inside the community center, upstairs auditorium.

Also, I’m excited to let you know that during the month of December we will be having a variety of programs for all ages at the Congers Community Center. So come check out the light displays and participate in one of our new great winter activities.

Some of the programs include cookie decorating, various holiday concerts, creating holiday flower arrangements, wreath making, magic tricks, knitting without needles, holiday craft events, gingerbread making, creating winter lego scenes, and more. We are thrilled to be able to offer the residents of Clarkstown all these fun Winter Wonderland activities. I am sure you can find one that interests you so call our Recreation Department to learn more and register (845-639-6200).

Thanks to our Recreation staff for creating such a great variety of programs for all of us! I hope to see many of you in Congers this holiday season!
