Victorious Ramapo candidates speak out

New Direction for Ramapo coalition candidates Bill Weber (for Supervisor) and Shani Bechhofer (for Town Council) and Grant Valentine (for Town Council) won convincing victories Tuesday night in the Reform and Green primaries.

“Last night’s results are another indication of how eager Ramapo residents are for a new direction in town government,” Bill Weber, the town supervisor candidate said. “After years of corruption, fiscal mismanagement and irresponsible development, they showed again they are ready for new leadership that will bring accountability and integrity to local government.”

The New Direction for Ramapo coalition beat back a write-in effort by the opposition to win the Reform Party line in November. And dozens of Green Party members wrote in their names to give the New Direction slate the Green line in November as well.

“Everywhere we go in the town, we hear the frustration and the desire for real change in Ramapo,” said Shani Bechhofer, candidate for town council. “That’s why we’re running and that’s what we intend to give the people of Ramapo from day one.”

“We’re building a broad-based coalition committed to reform and good government,” added council candidate Grant Valentine. “The results yesterday reflect the enthusiasm we feel throughout every part of Ramapo.”

The New Direction coalition will now appear on four ballot lines on November 7. In addition to the Reform and Green Party lines, the candidates also have the Republican line and their own New Direction party line.
