Film about Upper Nyack Man Who Saved Lives on 9/11 Premieres

The story of local hero, Welles Crowther, was told in a world premiere film – “Man in Red Bandana” – in Suffern.

Crowther, a 24-year-old from Upper Nyack, died during the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 after helping at least 20 people to safety from the South Tower, including a woman who he carried on his shoulder down 17 flights of stairs.

The documentary was written and directed by Matthew Weiss with Chad A. Verdi and Joshua Sason as producers. “Man in Red Bandana” premiered September 6,  7:30 p.m. at the Lafayette Theatre in Suffern, co-sponsored by The Journal News.
