The Swampgrass Jug-band will be live, in an intimate concert setting at Rockland Center for the Arts on Saturday, June 10th at 7:30 pm.  So come and get intimate with us.  This is a special unique evening, not to be missed.  Jug band, American Roots music, blues, old timey, bluegrass and kazoos. For over 4 decades the many incarnations of The Almost Original Synthetic Swampgrass Jug-Band have thrilled audiences with their death defying acts of heroism and chivalry. More than just helping old ladies cross the street, the band presents an eclectic mix of American Roots music, Old Timey string band music, original Jugcoustic and of course, good ol’ Jug Band bluegrass music.

Drawing on influences from Jim Kweskin and the Jug Band and the 1960s folk music revival, the band created its own dynamic repertoire of jug band, bluegrass, folk and blues – a sampler of American music combined with a flair for entertaining and crafting original music.  Swampgrass Jug-band forces people to be free.  This can be witnessed when the audience has the uncontrollable urge to play a kazoo or scrape a washboard along with us.

“Whether inventing novelty instruments (i.e. the electric Jew’s Harp – crafted partially out of an erector set – or washtub bass) or writing original music about their lives in New Jersey (such as “Rubber Necker”), the band is truly having fun playing and performing.  That’s something any casual observer can plainly see.”….. Thomas Clancey – Pascack Press.

The band has played all over the New York metro area, opened for George Carlin at NJIT and has played with Vassar Clements, Jay Unger, Del McCoury, and many others.  In 2010 they were nominated for the Jug Band Hall of Fame.

Noted New Jersey author Michael Gabriele, who featured the band in his book “New Jersey Folk Revival Music” will be on hand to introduce the guys and be available for signing books and discuss Folk Music in New Jersey.

The band consists of six members – Dave Rubin: vocals, guitar, steel guitar, jews harp Jeff Tyler: vocals, mandolin, fiddle, jug, kazoo Jim Vasconcellos: bass, washtub Jared Grubow: washboard, coffee can drum set, other percussion Doug Bowen: vocals, guitar, hammer dulcimer, saw, jug, Donald Bowen: banjo, vocals, kazoo, assorted interesting voices.
