East Ramapo School District Agrees to Contract with Brega Transport Inc. then Reissues RFP

The East Ramapo District Board of Trustees had voted to accept the bid by Brega Transport Inc. to provide bus services to the district at the East Ramapo Central School District meeting on March 28. Following backlash, the district has reissued the RFP

Critics questioned whether by awarding this contract the school board forgot about the Richard Brega indictment earlier this year. East Ramapo activist Stephen White filed an appeal to the decision with the state.

Brega was indicted on January 26, 2017 for allegedly defrauding local and federal taxpayers money spent on alleged fraudulent repairs made to Rockland County BOCES School buses. Brega is also accused of signing vouchers and taking money for repairing and maintaining Rockland BOCES buses when allegedly no maintenance was done.

Rockland County Executive Ed Day said that the county would never use Brega Transport Inc. and their services again.

Company officials reached out to the Rockland County Times two weeks ago, stating they were looking to move beyond the Richard Brega era and keep the company up and running.
