Interim MTA executive director named

NEW YORK – More than 20-year veteran of the MTA, Veronique Hakim, has been named interim executive director of the transportation agency as a search committee will review and recommend candidates for the permanent position.

Chairman and CEO Thomas Prendergast retired last week as MTA head of the agency, which oversees New York City transportation facilities as well as the Metro-North Railroad system into the Mid-Hudson Valley.

Hakim has served as president of New York City Transit since December 2015. Prior to that she served as executive director of NJ Transit for a year-and-a-half, which operates 12 commuter rail lines, three light rail lines, 261 bus routes and Access Link paratransit service across New Jersey. NJ Transit operates the Metro-North service for the MTA on the West-of-Hudson lines.
