Ellen Jaffee Appointed to Assembly Education Committee

PRESS RELEASE- Assemblymember Ellen Jaffee (D-Suffern) announced Wednesday her appointment by Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to the Assembly Education Committee.

“As a strong advocate for public education, my top priorities this legislative session will continue to be significant funding for public schools and ensuring all children, from Pre-K through college, get an equal, high-quality education that will prepare them for good jobs and successful careers,” Jaffee said. “The number of students in our classrooms, the quality of our curriculum, programs, and support services must be held to the highest standards. Investing in education and fully-phasing in Foundation Aid will improve our schools, sustain our families, and reduce the shameful inequality that exists in school districts across our state.”

Regent Judith Johnson said, “The children and families in New York State will be well-served by Ellen’s newest appointment. She brings to the work her commitment to education policies that prepare our children to choose pathways that can lead to a fulfilling life as contributing citizens. On a personal level, I am pleased Ellen and I will have new opportunities to work together on legislative priorities that expand and enrich our state’s educational agenda.”

“In these times when public education is under attack, investing in education is essential because everyone benefits,” Jaffee said. “If we do not provide adequate funding for our public education system, we compromise our children’s future, the future of New York State and the nation.”
