B.R.i.D.G.E.S. SEEKS HELP IN RAISING FINAL FUNDING TO PURCHASE WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE VANS

B.R.i.D.G.E.S., a non-profit organization in New York dedicated to providing advocacy and leadership for people with disabilities, has an immediate opportunity to secure two wheelchair accessible vehicles if they can raise the remaining funding. Each van is equipped for seven passengers, including two individuals in wheelchairs. These vans will widen the reach BRiDGES can provide and greatly improve capacity to provide services that advance autonomy for people with disability.

BRiDGES has secured more than $80,000 toward the purchase of these two accessible vehicles through a grant from the New York State Department of Transportation.  The grant requires 20% matching funds that must be submitted with the final grant paperwork, due in December this year. The agency needs to raise $20,000 to meet this goal.

“BRiDGES is very excited about the opportunity to improve transportation in Rockland County by obtaining these accessible vehicles.  It is also a great opportunity for people to stretch the value of their contributions.  With the matching grant, each $1 given is $5 toward accessible transportation,” stated Dr. David Jacobsen, executive director for BRiDGES.  “Accessible vehicles create many more opportunities for people with disabilities to participate in community life.  Since these vehicles do not require a Commercial Driving License, there is more flexibility in how they may be used to help people with disabilities get to education, employment, and other appointments.”
