FLU VACCINE CLINICS SCHEDULED IN ROCKLAND

Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert this week remind residents to protect themselves by getting a flu vaccine. The flu is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Even healthy people can get very sick from the flu and spread it to others. “Take time to get your flu vaccine – it is the first and most important step in protecting against the flu and its complications,” said Dr. Ruppert.

The Health Department is holding flu vaccine clinics on the following Fridays, from 1 pm –  4 pm, at the Robert Yeager Health Center, Building A, second floor rotunda clinic area, located at Sanatorium Road in Pomona: September 30 and October 7, 14, 21, and 28. These flu vaccine clinics are for residents 9 years and older; no appointments are needed. The vaccine is free of charge to adults 65 years and older (please bring identification with proof of age). Patients with Medicare and Medicaid must bring their cards. There is a $30 fee for those 9 through 64 years old. Each patient must bring proof of Rockland County residency such as a driver’s license or utility bill. The Health Department will be giving the quadrivalent flu vaccine (meaning it offers protection against four different flu viruses that research shows will be most common during this flu season). The vaccine does not contain the preservative thimerosal. For more information about the flu and the Health Department flu vaccine clinics visit http://bit.ly/2c154Bj or call 845-364 – 2520.

In addition, the Health Department, along with the Rockland County Office for the Aging, and several community agencies including Northern Services Group and Nyack Hospital, have coordinated the following flu vaccine clinics, offering the quadrivalent flu vaccine supplied by the Health Department, ONLY to residents 65 years and older. These shots are free of charge.

Talk to your doctor before getting the flu shot if you have an allergy to eggs or any of the ingredients in the vaccine and if you are not feeling well. It is recommended that you wait for 15 minutes after being vaccinated so you can be observed for any reactions.
