A Reckless Beckerle Family Member Nearly Killed Three Girls with Lumber Truck, Now Faces Six Months in Prison

A Rockland businessman has been sentenced to jail for a drunken driving crash that left three young women seriously hurt.

Matthew Beckerle, 50, of Pearl River, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of vehicular assault in March. He was behind the wheel of a truck from his family’s lumber company at the time of the accident last June.

Beckerle was sentenced to six months in jail and five years probation in Rockland County Court on Tuesday.

In court Beckerle told the women how sorry he was that he injured them, but victims said the damage was done and lashed out at him for his complete recklessness, reminding him of how deeply and permanently he harmed their bodies.

“Hopefully this sends a message to those who want to get behind the wheel after having a several drinks that these are the type of accidents that do occur unfortunately very frequently,” says David Goldwasser, the father of one of the victims.

Beckerle smashed a truck from his family’s company Beckerle Lumber into traffic at 90 miles per hour.
