She Outlived the Bridge!

STORY BY LOU ALPERT
useThe background of this story is the completion of the original Tappan Zee bridge in 1955 and a few years later the completion of the construction of the Salisbury Point Cooperative, a four-building landmark luxury housing complex directly overlooking the Tappan Zee bridge and the Hudson river.
One of the first individuals to purchase an apartment at Salisbury in 1961 was a then 45-year-old lady, Ms. Viola Svensson.
Viola still lives in that apartment with its panoramic views of the Tappan Zee bridge and the Hudson River, just out of her terrace window! Viola just turned 100 years of age last week and her birthday was celebrated this weekend by the residents of Salisbury.
It can truly be said that “VIOLA SURVIVED THE ENTIRE LIFESPAN OF THE ORIGINAL TAPPAN ZEE BRIDGE BY NEARLY DOUBLE THE YEARS”.
Viola’s recent remark to me was “Why are they building a new bridge, I was just getting used to the old one!”
HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY, VIOLA
