Spectator

One of the greatest musicals on Broadway this year, or any year, is the musical “Hamilton” about one of our Founding Fathers.
You cannot get a ticket no matter how much you want to pay!
It has been nominated for 16 Tony Awards!
For the recent Clarkstown Senior Show, the Spectator thought we should have a musical honoring one of our great presidents – Abe Lincoln!
Read some musical excerpts here. Who knows – maybe some day it too will be on Broadway.

Lincoln The Musical (Tune Oh Susannah)

Oh my name is Abe Lincoln
I’m from Illinois, don’t you see
When I became the president
All the slaves, they will be free

Four score and seven years ago
Me, I never did score
My sex life with my wife
Was really one big bore

Abe, Abe, Lincoln
I’m the man, yes siree
When I became President
All the slaves they will go free

I went to Ford Theatre
A play I wanted to see
John Wilkes Booth climbed in my box
And took a shot at me.

Abe, Abe Lincoln
I’m that man, yes siree
When I became the President
All the slaves, I set them free

In the City of New York
They named a tunnel after me
It takes you from Manhattan
To the shores of New Jersey

Abe, Abe Lincoln
I’m that man, yes siree
When I became the President
All the slaves, I set them free

My Lincoln Logs were famous
Any child will tell you so
Until along came a toy
With the name, lego – lego

Abe, Abe Lincoln
I’m that man, yes siree
When I became the President
All the slaves, I set them free

Oh my face is on the penny
And on the 5 dollar bill
And I was very happy, ‘till
I saw Grant on the 50 dollar bill

Abe, Abe Lincoln
I’m the man you see
I wouldn’t be at Ford Theatre
If the White House had TV

I gave a speech at Gettysburg
Where we laid the dead to rest
I wrote it on an envelope
Which I had inside my vest

Abe, Abe Lincoln
I’m that man, yes siree
When I became the President
All the slaves, I set them free

Song –
Sung by the Log Cabin Girls (Tune Oh, Johnny)

Oh, Lincoln, Oh Lincoln
You’re quite the man
Oh Lincoln, Oh Lincoln
You’re the best in the land.

You saved our country
Yes, it’s true
Because of you –
We still wave the old, red, white and blue

Oh Lincoln, Oh Lincoln
You sent Grant a case of booze
Oh Lincoln, Oh Lincoln
Because of that, we couldn’t lose

You were the best, it is true
They’ll be no other just like you
Yes, Lincoln, we really love you!

Lincoln The Musical Song (tune Glory Glory Hallelujah)

Our eyes have seen old Lincoln
The one we call the Abe
He was the greatest president
He went and freed the slaves
He lived in a log cabin
And studied by candle light
There was no O&R to make things bright!
Glory, glory Abe Lincoln
Glory, glory Abe Lincoln
Glory, glory Abe Lincoln
He was no Chevrolet!

He united our great country
During the terrible Civil War
He sent Grant a case of whiskey
From a Tennessee liquor store
And our troops went marching on!
Glory, glory Abe Lincoln
Glory, glory Abe Lincoln
Glory, glory Abe Lincoln
He was no Chevrolet!

His wife she won two tickets
At a raffle at the K of C
The tickets were for a play
At Ford’s Theatre, you see
She didn’t know that John Wilkes Booth
Was an usher in the balcony
And he shot poor Lincoln dead!
Glory, glory Abe Lincoln
Glory, glory Abe Lincoln
Glory, glory Abe Lincoln
He was no Chevrolet!
