New name for the ballpark St. Lawrence built

New ballpark in PomonaIt’s been over two years since Provident Bank, Rockland’s former longtime community bank, transformed via a merger and acquisition into Sterling National Bank, but all the while the obsolete monicker “Provident Bank Park” has remained attached to the ballpark in Pomona.

In timing that no doubt will be considered more than coincidental by a large portion of the public, the Rockland Boulders and ballpark administrators announced on April 25 that the park’s new sponsor is Palisades Federal Credit Union. Its name going forward will be “Palisades Credit Union Park.”

Ballpark officials denied the announcement is in any way an attempt to change the subject from the multiple counts of felony fraud connected to the financing of the park the FBI has filed against Town of Ramapo Supervisor Chris St. Lawrence and other Ramapo officials. Terms of the naming rights deal were not announced.

“We’re thrilled to have this longtime community financial institution join our family and a team that promotes America’s pastime while providing quality and affordable family entertainment,” said Boulders President Ken Lehner. “Palisades Credit Union has a 75-year history serving our region, representing more than 15,000 area residents and is poised to grow significantly.”

Palisades Credit Union President Tony Molina said, “this decision is about building a partnership for a long-term commitment, serving the community and providing our members with great benefits through this relationship. Palisades Credit Union and the Rockland Boulders share a culture of community involvement that makes this a perfect fit.”

“The Boulders are a terrific organization and great sponsorship partners,” said Jack Kopnisky, president and CEO of Sterling National Bank. “They run a valuable family-friendly venue in our community and we derived great value out of our naming rights sponsorship. As our business and marketing strategies shifted, we realigned our relationship with The Boulders, keeping a presence in the Park, but not renewing our naming rights. We look forward to seeing The Boulders continue to grow and thrive.”

Rockland’s 2016 season will begin on Saturday, May 14 when they host the NYPD’s Finest in their annual exhibition game.  The Boulders will then begin their quest for their third straight pennant at the new Palisades Credit Union Park on Thursday, May 19 when they host the Sussex County Miners. The first 1,000 fans will get a 2016 magnet schedule while all fans will enjoy a post-game Fireworks Extravaganza.
