Supervisor Monaghan announces social security number “breach” has occurred in Stony Point

Submitted by George Potanovic, Jr.

[April 12, 2016] At the Stony Point Town Board meeting tonight, it was announced that there has been an apparent identity theft involving more than 25 Stony Point town employees. The identity theft involved employee social security numbers, has affected employee insurance accounts and has prevented some employees from filing their tax returns with the IRS.

The Stony Point Police Department has been investigating since the theft was first detected the afternoon of Monday, April 11. It is not clear at this time how the theft occurred and whether or not it originated from compromised records within the Town of Stony Point database, the IRS or elsewhere.
