Skoufis seeks expanded tax credit for families

STATEMENT BY ASSEMBLYMAN JAMES SKOUFIS (D)

“[On February 2] the state Assembly took a step toward providing meaningful tax relief for families in the Hudson Valley and throughout our state.  Legislation I sponsored (A.9179) was announced to provide middle class New Yorkers who pay some of the highest taxes in the nation with an income tax cut. Specifically, our legislation cuts the income tax rate of those earning $40,000 – $150,000 and ensures families keep more of their hard-earned money. The measure will also provide much-needed tax relief to lower income families through an expansion of the Earned Income Tax Credit.

“In order to provide this important relief to those that need it the most, we are proposing to adjust the tax rate for individuals making in excess of $1 million per year, asking that everyone pay their fair share. I’ll continue to advocate for public policy that helps our region thrive. By ensuring hardworking families aren’t overburdened by taxes and continuing to invest in our local economy, we can make certain the Hudson Valley remains a great place to live and work.”
