Statement from NYS Republican Chairman Ed Cox in Response to Governor Cuomo’s Call to Shut Down the Federal Government for More Gun Control

“Governor Cuomo’s call for a federal government shutdown over gun control is callous and silly grandstanding abusing a terrible tragedy to further his national ambitions and burnish his Left-wing credentials following last year’s embarrassing primary and his sinking job approval ratings.

“He should have learned to do better from his rushed enactment after a similar tragedy of his defective so-called SAFE Act that infringed upon the Second Amendment rights of law abiding citizens, but has been ineffectual in keeping guns out of the hands of the mentally ill or criminals.

“He once again is showing his incompetence for high federal office with his statement that gun control should be “THE 2016 issue” over issues of a sour economy and dire foreign threats to our national security.”
