County Executive’s Corner: Happy Birthday America!

By Rockland County Executive Ed Day

American-Flag-Wall-ArtThis Independence Day, Americans will celebrate the birth of the United States of America. We are blessed to live in a nation like no other, a nation of liberty and freedom. One of the most remarkable traits of our great country is the opportunity that Americans have to live freely, pursue their dreams and succeed. I have seen this demonstrated frequently as County Executive when I talk with local residents and business owners and hear their stories of determination and resolve as they work to succeed and elevate our quality of life.

As we gather at parades and barbecues to celebrate our nation’s 239th birthday this weekend, we must not forget to count these blessings. As Americans, we must never take these opportunities for granted and must always give thanks to the men and women, both past and present, who have made the freedom and liberty we enjoy every day possible in our country. As a military father, I will be forever proud of my sons and their fellow soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines for playing vital roles in safeguarding the ideal of liberty.

Today, I ask you to join me in honoring our brave servicemen and women all over the world. Because of their sacrifice, and the sacrifice of their families, we can enjoy this holiday, knowing that we are truly free.

Despite our economic and cultural challenges, I will continue to work with all residents to move our county forward. Our strength comes from working together and our joint commitment to prudent choices for a better Rockland. In the spirit of our founding fathers, who came together to form a new nation, we can come together to make our county more affordable, our schools stronger and safer, our communities more connected, our families better protected, our workers better trained and our government more fiscally responsible.

Happy birthday America!
