Buckenmeyer Volunteer Scholarship to Dominick Peluso of Suffern, NY was announced recently by FASNY Scholarship Awards Committee Chairman Brian F. McQueen. At the Ramapo High School Senior Awards on June 15, Dominick received a certificate as well as a check for $1,500 for his volunteer service in the community. Dominick was one of 15 students across New York State chosen for this scholarship out of a total of 86 applicants.

The FASNY scholarships are awarded on the basis of an applicant’s volunteer service to his or her community (e.g., community projects, fire department, scouting, church, school, work with senior citizens, fire prevention projects, 4-H, etc.) and the proof of his or her exemplary character traits (e.g., community citizenship, dependability, etc). Dominick will graduate from Ramapo High School and plans to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, majoring in Aeronautical Sciences with a minor in Aviation Safety.

Dominick, a resident of Suffern, was drawn to the Hillcrest Fire Company #1 after taking a youth academy class where he learned about all emergency services. He has been a member since March 2013. In high school, Dominick served as the president of the National Honor Society. Outside of school, Dominick is commander of the Lee A. Archer Red Tail Youth Flying Program.
