Daniel Caprara is a super-volunteer who has no ‘off switch’ and sticks to his commitments to make things happen.

Sonia Cairo, executive director of Keep Rockland Beautiful (KRB), indicated that Daniel spotted the organization’s volunteers planting trees and shrubs along Pascack Brook in Spring Valley several years ago. In 2013, he then participated in the Fall Waterway Cleanups along the Naurashaun Brook with others from the United Way Day of Caring. The same year, Daniel supported the Great American Cleanup by hanging banners along Rockland County streets and helping with the Inaugural Shopping Cart Rescue to return the carts to their rightful stores. In 2014, he volunteered to lead the Route 304 New City Community Cleanup by rallying organizational members and enlisting local businesses to donate food and gifts for the workers. As a result, he received the 2014 KRB Community Cleanup Award.

Daniel has been a telecommunications technician with Verizon for twenty years. The Verizon Foundation recently recognized him for his work with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Rockland County, Meals on Wheels, Homes for Heroes and Habitat for Humanity. In 2015 , he has been working with People to People to stock shelves and unload trucks. In addition to working with these charities, he is serving as a volunteer Clarkstown Auxiliary Police Officer and participating in Leadership Rockland.

Daniel told the Rockland County Times, “I have lived all of my life in New City. I thought about all of the good people who helped me as I grew up and now it is my turn to give back to the Rockland County communities. I have two young sons, Henry and Griffin, plus my wife Billie Jean is very understanding about the time I spend volunteering. The experiences have been very rewarding and I will continue this as long as work and family allow.”
