unnamedCONGERS – A Congers man was taken into custody early this morning after he allegedly beat his father to death in his home.

Steven Alicea, 33, was taken into police custody today after police responded to a call reporting a domestic incident at his home at 79 Ohio Avenue in Congers. The caller notified police when a neighbor ran to his home and asked him to call for help at around 5:37 a.m.

Upon arriving at the scene 20 minutes later, Clarkstown Police patrol units found his father Ismael Alicea, 61, unresponsive in an upstairs bedroom. Ismael was pronounced dead by paramedics shortly before 6 a.m. The younger Alicea was observed by patrol units to have blood on him and was arrested at the scene.

The Rockland County Medical Examiner responded to the scene shortly thereafter. An initial investigation found that the death was likely the result of bludgeoning. A police investigation is ongoing.

Police have also concluded the murder was an isolated incident limited to family members. Consequently, no other suspects are being sought and no additional danger has been posed for Clarkstown residents.

Steven Alicea is expected to be charged with second-degree murder, a felony carrying a potential penalty of 15 to 25 years in prison.
