GROMACK WARNS OF PALISADES MALL HAZARD

To the Editor,

As you know, the Town of Clarkstown has voiced its concerns regarding the railings and the safety of our residents and visitors at the Palisades Center Mall.  It has come to our attention that there are people moving chairs and couches closer to the railings to watch participants on the Adventure Climbing course. While I understand the Adventure Climbing course is a popular attraction this occurrence can prove to be a very dangerous situation.

I have asked the mall to install permanent bolted benches as a viewing area for the climbing course.  These benches should be located with sufficient distance away from the railings. I have asked Peter Beary, our building inspector, to meet with the mall to discuss this matter and any other alternative solutions they may have.

In the meantime, I requested that mall security routinely monitor this area to assure that the furniture is not moved from the designated sitting locations to near the railings.

Mr. Beary and I look forward to working with the Palisades Center Mall on this matter.

Sincerely,

Alexander J. Gromack
