BY BILL DEMAREST

BARDONIA – John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band are set to perform on April 18 at Albertus Magnus High School in Bardonia as part of a fundraising event to benefit The Dan Sullivan Foundation – created in memory of the 1972 Albertus grad and New City businessman who died in 2011.

The foundation, since its creation, has been able to help families in need and provide scholarships to local students, according to Jim Sullivan, Dan’s brother, who serves as president of the board of the foundation.

Dan Sullivan, a Stony Point resident, was owner of New City AllState for 30 years and was a 1976 graduate of Dominican College in Orangeburg. A scholastic athlete and standout basketball player, Dan Sullivan has been inducted into both the Albertus and Domincan halls of fame, and was named to the Rockland County Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

He died suddenly on Oct. 31, 2011, at age 57.

– Struggling to pay medical bills related to a chronic illness.

– Needing help with costs of housing or transportation accommodations for a sick child or family member.

– Needing assistance with household expenses after the sudden loss of a loved one.

– Unable to afford funeral expenses.

The foundation has granted $15,000 in scholarships and funding for local education programs since 2012.

About the band:

After a decade-long run on the Northeast music scene during which they became recognized as one of the best and most popular unsigned acts in the country, John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown finally broke through nationally with leader John Cafferty’s score to the motion picture, “Eddie & The Cruisers”. The soundtrack was awarded a triple platinum certification by the RIAA and led to their own recording contract with Columbia Records. Their second album, “Tough All Over”, was a best seller and gained them an international audience. After forty years, John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band is an on-going and in-demand attraction and is unquestionably one of the greatest and most successful acts in Rhode Island music history.
