Open seats on Pearl River Board of Education

The Pearl River Board of Education announces two seats for election on the board, the seats currently held by Jackie Curtiss and Bruce Bond.  The term commences on July 1, 2015 and runs through June 30, 2018. Elections will be held on Tuesday, May 19, together with the Annual School Budget Vote. Both Mrs. Curtiss and Mr. Bond have informed the board of their intention to re-run.

Qualified candidates interested in running for the board must submit a petition, signed by 25 or more Pearl River School District qualified voters, to the district clerk’s office by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 20.  Blank petitions are available in the district clerk’s office, which is located in the district administration building at 135 West Crooked Hill Road, Pearl River, and open between the hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

In order to qualify for membership on the school board, a candidate must be a citizen of the United States, 18 years of age or older, able to read and write, must be a qualified voter in the district, must be and have been a district resident for at least one year prior to the election, may be the only members of his/her household on such school board, may not be an employee of the school district, may not simultaneously hold another, incompatible public office, and may not have been removed from a school district office within one year of the election.

District residents seeking to place a citizen-initiated petition on the ballot on May 19 must submit a petition, signed by 61 or more Pearl River School District qualified voters, to the district clerk’s office by 5:00 PM on Monday, April 20.
