Pedestrian struck Sunday night in New Square

FROM RPD

Ramapo Police report that on Sunday, March 8 at approximately 9:20 p.m.,  a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Route 45 and Washington Ave. in New Square. Upon arrival on scene, officers determined that a 61-year-old male was struck by an unknown gold sedan while he was attempting to cross Washington Ave.

The vehicle, possibly a late model Toyota, struck the pedestrian and immediately fled the scene going north on Route 45. The pedestrian, later identified as Solomon Diamant of Monsey, suffered numerous head, face and chest injuries. Diamant was transported, via Hatzolah Ambulance, to Westchester Medical Center for treatment.

Ramapo Police Accident Investigation Unit responded to the scene and conducted an accident reconstruction. A portion of Route 45 was closed for approximately three hours during the investigation. It was later determined that although serious, Diamant’s injuries were non-life threatening.
