Driver of car in Route 59 accident dies in hospital

WEST NYACK – The driver in an accident reported on Route 59 shortly after noon today passed away after arriving at Nyack Hospital, according to Clarkstown Police.

The accident occurred when a man, 56, of Central Nyack, lost control of his 2004 Hummer and plunged into the side of the road. He and his passenger, a 55-year-old female also from Central Nyack, were rushed to Nyack Hospital, where the man died and the woman was treated for minor injuries.

Initial reports from Clarkstown Police indicated that the man might have suffered an attack of some medical condition which led to the crash. It is not known at present whether his death was a direct result of the crash or the medical condition.

All but one lane of traffic remain closed from the Palisades Parkway interchange to Crosfield Avenue. Traffic delays are expected in the area while clean-up continues and the Clarkstown Police Accident Investigation Team continue their work.
