Police release name of 24-year-old Stony Pointer killed in Central Highway accident

Thomas Greco, 24, of Stony Point, lost his life in a head-on collision on Central Highway in Stony Point this evening.

At approximately 4:20 pm on today December 15, 2014 the Stony Point Police Department responded to a serious personal injury motor vehicle accident on Central Highway at the intersection with Sullivan Drive in Stony Point.

The driver of a 2007 Lexus sedan, a 75 year old female was driving northbound on Central Highway when a witness said the other vehicle, a 2013 Ford Focus, travelling southbound, crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane striking the other vehicle head on.

The driver of the other vehicle was Greco. Both victims had to be extricated from their vehicles and were both taken by ambulance to Nyack Hospital.

Greco later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Nyack Hospital.

The Stony Point Police were assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department Police Division and B.C.I., Rockland Paramedic Services, the Wayne Hose Volunteer Fire Department, the Town of Haverstraw Police Department, the Stony Point and Haverstraw Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Stat Flight helicopter.

The investigation is continuing and the cause of accident has not yet been determined.

It was the second time in three days a person in their early 20s died in a traffic accident in Stony Point. On Saturday morning 22-year-old Brianna Rodriguez passed away in a one-car accident on East Main St.
