MARINE CORPS LEAGUE LAUNCHES TOYS FOR TOTS 2014

The Rockland County Detachment, Marine Corps League has announced the 2014 “Toys For Tots” campaign that begins this week.

In addition to placing over 200 toy collection boxes around the county, members of the League will be at the Palisades Mall all day beginning Friday, November 28 and every Saturday and Sunday until Christmas to collect toys and contributions.

According to Rocky Graziano, long time county coordinator for the Marine Corps League, “Every year we collect and distribute more than 13,000 toys to needy children around the county. Every cent we collect is used to buy enough toys to insure that all requests are met.” According to Graziano, collected toys must be new and unwrapped to insure that they are safe and suitable for distribution. All distribution is done through one of the 50 non-profit agencies around the county.

Graziano went on to explain, “Without the help of many individuals and businesses, we would not be able to provide this service which is done annually at no cost to the county.”

“Toys For Tots” was founded in 1947 by members of the Marine Corps Reserve. Today, “Toys For Tots” is the registered trademark of the Marine Reserve Foundation, one of the country’s outstanding charitable organizations. Over its life span, the Marine Toys for Tots Program distributed over 469 million toys to over 216 million less fortunate children.

The Rockland County Detachment, Marine Corps League is the only organization approved to collect and distribute toys using “Toys For Tots.” Contributions may also be mailed to PO Box 191, Haverstraw, NY 10927.
