Rockland native Chris Krasniqi and partners Neil Blutig and Mike Gjiel recently opened Karma-Restaurant, Bar, and Lounge, located on 100 Main Street in downtown Nyack.

The Rockland County Times visited Karma last week for a bite to eat and a look around. The restaurant has a family oriented feel to it and features excellent Italian cuisine. An upscale lounge and bar area has about 20 TVs so customers can watch their favorites sports teams.

Karma has upscale decor with an upstairs lounge that overlooks the bar and main floor-which becomes the dance floor after 11 p.m.-as well as the 20 TVs and a touch screen juke box. From Monday through Friday, Karma has happy hour from 3 – 7 p.m, two for the price of one on alcoholic beverages. The drinks menu contains 16 draft lines, 10 to 12 bottles not on draft lines and a total of over 30 beers.

I had the pleasure of trying out Karma’s variety of delicious cuisine. I was presented with two appetizers: baked clams and fried calamari. The calamari was perfectly cooked and tender; not too crispy or overcooked at all. The baked clams are seasoned nicely, making the taste very pleasant with some spice.

I also tried two entrees, the chicken parmesan and the seafood alla roberto. The chicken parm was tender and coated perfectly with delicious marinara sauce and cheese. The seafood alla roberto, in my opinion, was the best entree because of what it contains. The plate was loaded with calamari, shrimp, clams, and black mussels in marinara sauce, which gave it great variety.

Krasnigi, Blutig, and Gjiel plan to have Karma be recognized more as a family oriented restaurant. The menu offers big portions with fresh high quality ingredients for decent prices. “We pride ourselves in properly accommodating customers,” Krasnigi said. “We take pride in little things as well like gestures, the way we make the food, and even presentation of the plate…vision is key.”

Krasnigi was born and raised in Nanuet; he has grown into the restaurant business due to his family owning previous restaurants. The restaurant’s got its name “Karma” because the owners believe that if they put the best of their abilities into the establishment and provide the best service to customers, then there will be a great outcome.

If anyone is interested in having a lovely meal with family, watching favorite sports teams while indulging a meal, or going to an upscale lounge at nighttime with friends to enjoy a few drinks, I highly recommend Karma. The food has exquisite quality and the restaurant is filled with friendly and sociable energy. Its look and decor give a welcoming feeling as soon as you enter. Karma is also preparing to have great specials each weekend to surprise customers.

If you’re ever walking through Main Street in Nyack, take a look at Karma. It is the perfect place for a family meal, night out or game day.
