Beginning of the holiday rush

Black Friday is routinely the busiest shopping day of the year. Retailers stock up on inventory and their shelves, more people are hired for seasonal positions, and the promotional sales give consumers the motivation to obtain the latest new items. Major retailers in various shopping centers over the years have agreed to extend hours on Thanksgiving day and Black Friday.

Locally, the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack will open on Thanksgiving day, from 6 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Black Friday. Woodbury Commons Premium Outlets in Monroe will be open on Thanksgiving day from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. on Black Friday. The only local mall/outlet that will not be opened on Thanksgiving is The Shops at Nanuet. The Shops will open slightly early on Black Friday, starting the day from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

According to the National Retail Federation, (NRF), it is expected that sales will increase to 4.1 percent this season. Also, consumers who start their holiday shopping on Thanksgiving day is up 27 percent from 2012. If this year becomes a strong turnout for retailers, the Thanksgiving day shopping trend will continue to increase yearly.
