Knights of Columbus building catches fire in Congers

K of C fireOn September 4, 2014 at 6:41 p.m., the Clarkstown Police Department responded to the Knights of Columbus, located at 114 N. Rt. 9W in Congers for a report of a structure fire. The building had heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof upon arrival of responding units. The occupants of the building were able to exit the location without any injury. Congers and Valley Cottage FD responded to the scene and extinguished the fire. The building had extensive damage and will be inspected by the Fire Inspector as well as the Building Inspector. The fire did not appear to be suspicious.

K of C fire 2The preliminary investigation revealed that the fire may have been caused by cigarettes being thrown into mulch located around the building. The Congers FD was called back to the scene at 2:15 a.m. for a hot spot at the location. It was extinguished with out incident.
