CHIKU AWALI PRESENTS A DURBAR FOR THE RITES OF PASSAGE CLASS OF 2014

(Spring Valley, N.Y.) Chiku Awali African Dance, Arts & Culture, Inc., is set to celebrate the 2014 Rites of Passage for Young Men and Young Women at an African durbar. Five youngsters, ages 12 to 14 will graduate from the program. The final ritual ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014, starting at 2:00p.m. at the Ramapo Cultural Arts Theater, 64 North Main Street, Spring Valley, NY. The students will parade from the Spring Valley Village Hall to the Ramapo Cultural Arts Theater at 1:30p.m. The durbar is open to the public and everyone is cordially invited. It is customary to place a small monetary gift in the basket of each Àwon Òdó, meaning in the Yorba language “young people,” as they are called by Chiku Awali.
