STONY POINT – A Stony Point man was arrested last week in connection to two separate burglaries which took place just moments apart on March 14 of this year.

Joshua Meighen, 22, was arrested while being held in the Rockland County Jail for an unrelated burglary in Haverstraw. According to police, Meighen broke into a senior citizens’ apartment at the Knights Corner Senior apartment complex, where he subjected the woman to physical contact before stealing cash and a laptop.

Moments later, Meighen allegedly broke into and burglarized another apartment in the same complex.

According to another Stony Point resident who did not wish to be named, Meighen has a long history of criminal activity stretching back to his teen years. According to her, the most recent case was all the more tragic because it would likely impact his young son and daughter.

“I feel for the kid,” The source said. “He’s been in and out of jails and trouble since he was 15. It’s such a shame.”

Meighen was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, fourth-degree grand larceny and misdemeanor petty larceny. Though he came into contact with the victim, no assault charges were announced.

Meighen is due back in court to face the new charges on August 21.
