Haverstraw PD issues press update on serious accident in town

The Town of Haverstraw Police Department is investigating a serious motor vehicle accident which occurred on July 6, 2014 on Route 9W in the Village of Haverstraw. The accident occurred at 3:14 pm on Route 9W approximately 500 feet north of the Town of Clarkstown border. It appears that a 2007 Audi driven by a, Ordane Brown, age 25, of Bridgeport, Connecticut was traveling south on Route 9W and crossed over the double yellow line, striking a 2008 Subaru driven by a Thomas Conroy of Nyack, which caused the Audi to lose control and strike a 2001 Jeep driven by a Rocco Maggino of New City head on.  Mr., Maggino, who suffered a leg injury, his wife Nikolina, who suffered a back and leg injury and their baby daughter were taken to Nyack Hospital The baby, who suffered a head injury, was subsequently transported to Westchester Medical Center.  The driver of the Audi suffered a arm and hand injuries and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital along with his passenger Crystal Garcia, who suffered a leg injury. The other passenger in his car, Victoria Ober, was transported to Nyack Hospital complaining of pain. The driver of the Subaru, Mr. Conroy and his wife suffered minor injuries and chose not to go to the hospital.

Odane Brown was arrested and charged with the following charges:

Aggravated Vehicular Assault (F)
Vehicular Assault 1^st (F)
Vehicular Assault 2^nd (F)
Driving While Intoxicated (M)
Reckless Driving (M)

He was arraigned in Town of Haverstraw Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 cash bail and was ordered to appear in Village of Haverstraw Court at a later date.

The Congers Fire Department responded to the scene to extricate the victims from the Jeep. The Haverstraw Fire Department also responded to the scene to assist with the other vehicles. Haverstraw Ambulance along with Stony Point and Congers ambulances responded to the scene to transport the injured subjects to the hospitals.

The Town of Haverstraw Police Department was also assisted at the scene by the Rockland County Sheriff’s B.C. I. Unit.
