The Rockland Conservation & Service Corps (formerly Rockland County AmeriCorps) recently spent a day at Homes For Heroes helping to dig a drainage ditch. The Rockland Conservation & Service Corps is an outdoor service corps for youth wishing to engage in environmentally based local service projects. Homes For Heroes President, Rockland County Legislator John Murphy, welcomed the youth and thanked them for contributing to this most worthy community project.

The Homes For Heroes project is building and maintaining rental apartments built for honorably discharged, disabled and displaced men and women veterans. Phase I consists of eight apartments built on the former Camp Shanks, in Tappan, N.Y., the same grounds where over 1.3 million GIs left to fight in Europe during WWII. Phase II is underway to build more affordable apartments to address the urgent need to house homeless Veterans permanently.

To help Homes for Heroes reach their goal of building more affordable rental apartments for Veterans, check donations can be mailed to Homes For Heroes, Inc., One Blue Hill Plaza, P.O. Box 1648, Pearl River, NY 10965 or credit card donations can be made via www.RocklandHomesForHeroes.Com.
