Elmwood Playhouse Renovation Celebration Set For May 16 in Nyack

????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????A gala reception and performance of “Smokey Joe’s Cafe” will occur Friday, May 16, 6 p.m. at Elmwood Theatre in Nyack. Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Legislator Harriet Cornell will be among invited guests for the event which celebrates the progress in Elmwood’s renovation project.

Phase One of the renovation was recently completed and includes the addition of a physical space that is now more handicap-friendly with restrooms on the audience level, and a new street level entrance on Park Street. The main lobby has been widened, the hospitality area has been refurbished, fire prevention and alarm systems upgraded and an entirely new studio has been constructed for use as rehearsal space.

Phase Two of the renovation project is underway and will create expanded seating space for more legroom.

Elmwood Playhouse on Park Street in Nyack was originally constructed as St. Pauls Lutheran Church in 1897 at a cost of $1,650. It was purchased by the Elmwood Playhouse in 1958 for $8,000.
