UNION ROAD IN SPRING VALLEY TO CLOSE TEMPORARILY

COUNTY PRESS RELEASE

NEW CITY, NY  —  Rockland County Executive Ed Day and Drainage Agency Chairman Charles H. Vezzetti today announced that construction on the Pascack Brook Bypass Culvert project in Spring Valley will require closing Union Road at the intersection of Stonehouse Drive and King Terrace on Monday, May 5, 2014.  The road will remain closed for two to three weeks.

“We know this closure will be a major inconvenience for people living in the area,” said County Executive Day. “We will do everything possible to make certain drivers and pedestrians know the best routes to maneuver around this temporary detour.”

The closure is required to install relocated and upgraded sanitary sewer facilities included as part of the overall project. A subsequent road closure is anticipated later this year to permit the installation of an underground culvert designed to contain floodwaters from the Pascack Brook.

The Pascack Brook Bypass Culvert project is being administered by the Rockland County Drainage Agency in cooperation with the Village of Spring Valley and Rockland County Sewer District No. 1. The $10 million project has been designed to relieve chronic flooding that has affected area residents. The improvements are scheduled to be completed in 2015.

A temporary traffic detour route has been established along Route 45 from Eckerson Road to Maple Avenue. Detour signs will be in place directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic around the work area.
