Drin-King and Driving Arrest

John R. King, 56, of Boynton Beach, Fl., was arrested on Monday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. for allegedly drinking and driving in Valley Cottage.

KingClarkstown Police Department had received a report of an erratic driver heading southbound on Rt. 303 near the Palisades Center Mall. A responding officer observed the vehicle driving below the speed limit and crossing the lanes of traffic. The officer stopped the driver at Old Nyack Turnpike and Fair Acres Rd. and identified him.

King appeared to be intoxicated and refused to conduct field sobriety tests. He also refused to submit to a breathalyzer test at police headquarters.

Police eventually determined that King, a repeat DWI violator, had disengaged his car’s interlock system, meant to prevent him from driving while intoxicated.

King was charged with felony DWI, due to a prior conviction within 10 years (felony), aggravated unlicensed operator in the first degree (felony) and circumventing an interlock system (misdemeanor).

He was arraigned Tuesday (today) at Clarkstown Justice Court and remanded to county jail on $5,000 bail. He will appear in court tomorrow, Wednesday, April 16.
