Candlelight vigil tonight for Christian Ascolese

A candlelight vigil in memory of Christian Ascolese will be held 8 p.m. at the Gate Hill Road site of the accident that claimed his life this Wednesday. It will last about one hour.

The weather forecast calls for light to moderate rain during the vigil. Police have reminded drivers to be aware of the potential for traffic and a large number of people in the area.

The Stony Point Police Department released the following statement regarding parking and private property:

“Those attending are asked to park legally on neighborhood streets as directed by police. Please do not cut across private property for this solemn occasion. Portable lighting has been set up. This is a dark stretch of road that will be closed to accommodate the vigil. Please be careful of pedestrians when you leave.”

Ascolese, 21, was a former standout high school athlete from Stony Point. The community has expressed deep grief over the loss of a young, promising life.

The accident occurred, and the vigil will occur, on Gate Hill Rd. between Jobson Way and Blanchard Rd.
