Welles Remy Crowther Red Bandana Memorial Scholarship

The Welles Remy Crowther Red Bandana Memorial Scholarship through the Rockland Community Foundation was established by his family as a way of honoring Welles’ legacy. It awards a $1,000 scholarship to a deserving Rockland County high school graduate choosing to pursue a career in fire and emergency services or health related services.

“We were delighted to establish the fund with the Rockland Community Foundation,” says Welles’ father, Jefferson Crowther. “It expanded our outreach in helping young people to develop into exemplary adults.”

Crowther was a 9/11 hero known to survivors as “The Man in the Red Bandana.” He helped save several persons from certain death before perishing himself.
