Statement on NYS Board of Regents Vote from Assemblyman Kieran Michael Lalor (R,C,I – Fishkill)

“I’m voting against the Board of Regents incumbents today. The Board of Regents is failing our students. Common Core has been a disaster from top to bottom. The regents need to accept responsibility for this failure. Even before the Common Core implementation, too many schools across New York were failing. Too many students weren’t adequately prepared for college or the workplace. The regents have been captains of a sinking ship for a long time.”

“I’m also voting against the challengers. The legislature interviewed last-minute candidates just yesterday. The public doesn’t have time to respond and be a part of the process. Last-minute interviews and last-minute candidates are a symptom of a disregard for transparency and public participation in the process. New Yorkers are upset that Common Core was rushed through without their input. Albany shouldn’t make the same mistake with the Board of Regents. I can’t support this kind opaque process. I’m voting no on each candidate.”
