SOCSD Superintendent to Retire in December 2014

It is retirement time for Dr. Kenneth Mitchell, the superintendent of Schools for South Orangetown Central School District.

Dr. Mitchell announced through the Board of Education on Friday that he will retire from the post effective December 31, 2014. It will have been a six-year and five plus month run for Dr. Mitchell, who joined the district as superintendent July 14, 2008.

The Board of Education said it has “great appreciation for [Mitchell’s] outstanding work and dedication during his years of service with the district.”

The Board of Education said it will meet to determine its plan for entering into a search for the next superintendent and will keep the community apprised. Dr. Mitchell has volunteered to assist in the transition process.
