Elizabeth Van Meter will come to the Elmwood Playhouse in March with her play “The Purpose Project,” a story about a Vietnamese woman who battled through health problem while establishing a library in her village. Van Meter left by plane for Japan Wednesday where she will do a video for the Hand In Hand non-profit group about the problems still remaining for those who suffered from the giant tsunami and earthquake that struck Japan in recent years. Van Meter is being brought to Nyack by ArtsRock of Rockland County. Tickets at ArtsRock.com.

“You Can’t Take It With You” up next at Antrim Playhouse on Spook Rock Road in Wesley Hills starting March 14. It was written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. Information and tickets at antrimplayhouse.com.

Dedication and roof raising of the new wing at Thiells United Methodist Church on Rosman Road, Thiells is set for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 15. The new structure was constructed after Sandy smashed a large tree into the roof of the lower building, which housed the church’s Thrift Shoppe. The Thrift Shoppe will remain on the lower floor and the upper floor will be a new Fellowship room with bathroom availability.

An intimate evening with singer Vanessa Carlton is set for the Newton, N.J. Theatre Friday, June 13 at 8 p.m. Tickets go on sale Friday, February 21 at 11 a.m. at 973-383-3700.

March 7 is the date for the opening of the film screening of “Edward Hopper and the Blank Canvass” at the Edward Hopper House, Nyack at 7 p.m. It is a documentary made by Jean Pierre Devillers in cooperation with the Edward Hopper exhibit in Paris and Madrid in 2012.

The Monday Morning Music Club celebrating it’s 90th anniversary Tuesday, March 11 at 10:30 a.m. with a concert of Brahm’s Hungarian Dances, Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances and more with guest pianists Matthew Harrison and Vlada Yaneva. Donations accepted.
