Haverstraw to Spend $40K for July 4 Fireworks

Haverstraw kicked off the town meeting this week with a bang, as they decided to approve the annual fireworks display for July 4 at Bowline Park. The town board approved costs for up to $40,000 to light the town’s night sky.

This will be the second year in a row where the town set an agreement with Fireworks Extravaganza to put on the show. Supervisor Phillips stressed the importance of re-contracting with Fireworks Extravaganza as the town had hired three companies in the three years prior who, he said, put on sub-par displays.

The town board also approved an agreement with Berard & Donahue, CPA, PC of Suffern, New York to provide auditing services over a lease agreement with the Haverstraw Marina. The Marina has 15 years left on their 50 year lease.

On an ending note, the board discussed a problem with waste management in the town in relation to their contracted landscapers. As it stands, the landscaping companies who work for the town have been forced to travel to Clarkstown in order to dump debris. The board approved a motion to build their own waste building within Haverstraw. Details for the project will come in future meetings.
