Wolfe Wants Special Election for Annie Rabbitt’s Vacated Assembly Seat

Ignoring the current trend in Albany of leaving vacated Assembly seats open until this year’s November election, Rockland County Legislature Chairman Alden H. Wolfe has urged Governor Andrew Cuomo to direct a special election be held for State Assembly District 98 to fill the seat formerly held by Annie Rabbitt, who stepped down in early January to become Orange County Clerk. The district encompasses Orange County and a portion of the Town of Ramapo in Rockland County.

In a letter to Governor Cuomo dated January 16, 2013, Wolfe stated that absent a special election, 400,000 district residents would be left without representation for a full year. He urged the Governor to approve a special election for mid-March to coincide with some village elections and to minimize the cost of the process to the two counties.

“I believe a mid-March election would ensure continuity of representation and guarantee that our residents have a voice in Albany”, said Chairman Wolfe.
