TRAIN VS. CAR WRECK IN ROCKLAND

The Clarkstown Police Department is currently investigating a train (CSX) vs. car accident which occurred at the Pineview Rd. crossing in West Nyack.

Preliminary info is as follows:

At approx 11:40 a.m. Clarkstown Police received a 911 call from a homeowner in the area alerting us of the collision.  The train and vehicle are on fire.  One reported injury of unknown type at this time sustained to the driver of the vehicle.  The train is placarded to be carrying flammable liquids.  Initial reports are that each tank contains less than 500 gallons of crude oil.

UPDATE — the “car” was a truck cab with a car carrier attached to its rig. The driver was throw from the vehicle and is in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the car carrier, Esad Sadikovic, 55, from Jacksonville, FL was transferred to Westchester Medical Center.  He is being treated for multiple fractures.  There were two engineers on the train.  The train’s driver was James McCormick, 30 and the second engineer was Ryan Pauley, 32, both from Jacksonville, FL.  Neither sustained any injury.

The train was heading north on the tracks.  The car carrier attempted to cross over the tracks in an easterly direction. There are no crossing gates at this location.  The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation. The car carrier belongs to EKO transport also from Jacksonville, FL. The carrier was transporting five cars and one motorcycle. The extent of damage is as follows:  two vehicles totaled, three vehicles and the motorcycle all have minor damage.
