Counterfeit Bills Accusation

cerboneThe Clarkstown Police Department arrested Vito Cerbone, 31, from the Bronx on counterfeiting charges October 7.

Police allege Cerbone used counterfeit $20 bills to purchase merchandise at the Kohl’s store located in Woodbury, NY. Cerbone then came to the Kohl’s store in Nanuet to return the merchandise for cash which totaled $205.89, according to police. A loss prevention officer recognized Cerbone and contacted the Clarkstown Police Department.

Cerbone was stopped in the parking lot. Found in his possession were 11 counterfeit $20 bills. He was arrested and transported to Clarkstown Police Headquarters.

Further investigation revealed that at approximately 1:45 p.m. on the same date Cerbone attempted to exchange five counterfeit $20 bills for a hundred dollar bill at the Stop and Shop located in Nanuet. Cerbone was unsuccessful in his attempt.

Cerbone has been charged with 11 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument 1st (felony), attempted petit larceny, and criminal possession of stolen property 5th (both misdemeanors).
